Women and Guns

Wildlife Women has come to meet some really great people along the way as we take our journey to Educate, Inspire, and Encourage women to get into the outdoors and enjoy it.  One person we have come to know on YUDU Outdoors app is Wade Pennell.  We asked Wade to write us a blog every once in a while because of his support to Wildlife Women!  Please Welcome Wade and read his blog he has put out for all of our viewers to read!

The problem with the current gun control push is women! Yes, you read that correctly. In my humble opinion women are now and will continue to be the deciding factor in any further encroachment on our 2nd amendment rights.

Fifty years ago men hunted, men owned the guns, men belonged to the hunt clubs, gun clubs, the NRA. But no longer is that the case.

Women hunt, women shoot, women purchase their own firearms and accessories. They go out by themselves, they take and teach their children, they compete in matches. They take responsibility for their own protection.  They are as equals to men, stand beside male counterparts in all phases of the shooting sports. No longer is the female unprotected, unarmed, afraid.

Which brings us around to my original statement. Women are the number one problem with gun control. The problem being bold, self assured women do not fit into the anti gun group’s agenda.

The gun control crowd loves stereotypes, using their idea of the  stereotypical gun owner to push their agenda. Its easy PR to present visuals of the unwashed, uneducated, unethical gun toting male. That image is easy to sell to the average urban voter that has never seen a firearm except on the nightly news crime report.

But now women are in the forefront and are the fastest growing segment of firearms purchasers and concealed carry permit holders.

How can the lady huntress in eye shadow and lipstick, off to provide for her family’s sustenance be portrayed as evil lurking in a dark alley? How can the mom of three little ones with a .38 or .380 in her waistband standing at the bus stop chatting with her neighbors be twisted into a murdering psychopath?  How can groups of ladies gathered for a weekend in the outdoors, enjoying the outdoors, including guns, be ignored?

They can’t. You can’t. You women are the number one frontline defense against us as a nation losing our freedom. You raise our children, you teach them, you explain to and encourage them. It is you as outdoors people and gun owners that the antis cannot ignore or degrade.  – Wade Pennell

  1. What my husband states is so true. We as women are rightfully coming more and more into the outdoor community and gun ownership in particular and as such will be a powerful group now and in the future.
